Plata De Palo

The 2011 collection of European fashion icon PLATA DE PALO has landed at Kaight. This collection of jewelry and accessories are crafted in impeccable tradition. Each handmade piece is carefully done, one-by-one, with incredible attention to detail, defined by high fashion, high quality, and ethnically inspired materials. These pieces are both provocative and timeless. All of  Plata De Palo's materials are selected at source in India, Africa and Asia. These trips have been beneficial in combining glass, buffalo horn, wood and resin with semiprecious stones, leather and nylon, resulting in evocative combinations. We fell in love with the craftsmanship of their pieces back when we had our Pulp Lab Shop with in a Shop. You can tell each item was made with love. Now, we are pleased to announce that Plata De Palo has a special spot in our stores.
You can wear the bracelets alone or stacked for bigger statement. The pouches are great for a night out on the town. Perfect size to fit your metro card, cash, cell phone, keys, and your favorite stand out lipstick! Check out some of our "must haves" on our online shop. Or if you are in the area, stop by either of our locations to see their full collection!

J57 - Stand Out feat. Suri57

The boy who never ceases to amaze me has done it again. Only this time he took Suri along for the ride. Brooklyn MC/Producer J57 of the Brown Bag AllStars (and The Brooklynista's fiancé) takes us through his beat-making process, as well as discusses his group's approach to releasing music.

Shot & Cut by Jav Martinez (@TheJavMart) ThaReelness.Tumblr.com

Isn't she just the cutest little thing you have ever seen? God, I love her... Oh, and Jimmy too of course. PROUD!

P.S.- if you listen closely in the very beginning maybe first 1-2 seconds you can hear her little bark, sounds sort of like a record scratch. Lol.

Bill Cunningham

I don't know why, or how, it took me this long to write about the great/photography genius/heart melting/original street-style genius Bill Cunningham. Back in March, I dragged Jimmy along with me to view one of the most enticing films I have ever seen... The Bill Cunningham Documentary. It was filled with so much exciting fashion my eyes were shooting hearts out of them. Obviously, the fashion was outrageous and intriguing but, most of all the sweet persona of Bill was finally captured on film. His timid personality and love for fashion was remarkable. As I sat in the very last row of the Film Forum I realized something. This man is one of the many reasons why us fasionista's are who we are. We express ourselves through our apparel choices. "Don't be afraid...take a risk...be yourself...if you like it, wear it...and smile!" This film was sold out for a reason, Richard Press was able to capture the pure essence of Bill and that is a remarkable story in itself. I will not go into too much detail because this is an ABSOLUTE MUST SEE! It is now available on DVD, go get it! We love you Bill!

Peace & Love,

Victoria's Secret is despicable.

Victoria has another secret. And its one that will change your views on those little pink panties you so passionately love. Victoria Secret alledgabley uses Child Labor in its practices in Burkina Faso. They deny knowing any of this, but their partners  "The Swiss organization responsible for certifying the cotton and auditing producers", say they have raised concerns about child labor since 2008, but Victoria's Secret denies seeing any reports relevant to the matter. Do they not research where their cotton is harvested from them? Which raises another question, does this multi-million dollar company not research where their products are being produced then too? To learn more about the allegations go here. As of now, they are still under investigations.
I pledge never to buy from them again, I think I'll stick with PACT instead. If you would like to pledge, leave your name in the comment box. "Change starts with your underwear".

Please Support these children's futures.

Soul Khan - "Hold On" (Official Video)

Soul Khan - "Hold On" (official video)
Directed by Nicolas Heller
Cinematography by: John Edward Kopec
rickyshabazz.com

This video is very dear to my heart for these few reason.
1. It was shot in my apartment. (and no those are not my cheesy decorations, maroon and gold is they way it goes down in this household!.... But, yes, the cookie monster stocking is Suri's. She picked it out.)
2. I love anything having to do with Christmas.
3. I was the one who put pillows in J57's belly, bc my boy needed that real snowman effect.
4. The day before the filming we laughed and laughed... And laughed some more on how hysterical the concept of the video was and the fact that the we were going to see the Audible Doctor in an elf costume.
5. Santa is Jewish.
** Most importantly, the track is on fire! **

Great job guys!

Photo of the day.

Photo of the day:

I love the pop of color in this photo. The style is impeccable, love the dolman sleeves, tutu, and the hard edge of a studded vest. And, omg! Those wedges are to die for!! This is one trend that I don't think I could ever under appreciate. The orange/ginger-like umbrella is that extra perk.

Peach Rose

Been in a bit of a rut and missing Mom and Dad lately. Holidays are coming, they bring laughter and joy, but along with that, some sadness. Time goes by and things get better but it still seems like just yesterday. This beautiful peach rose was given to me from my sweet Jimmy, as a representation that he is here for me. Then I realize, I am still one lucky girl.
