BrooklynistaTurns1!

Well guys.. WE DID IT! You survived a whole year of me ranting and raving about my fashion do and donts, subway etiquette, nights out, nights in, friends, love (Jimmy<3), Suri and most of all the eco fashion world. Thank you for all your support! It means alot to know that people actually DO read my blog. There were times when I thought maybe I should just stop writing.. no one is commenting (and in my mind that meant no one is reading). I know now that I have some silent fans and I thank you guys. I am glad I can share my stories with you in hopes that you can somehow relate and be at ease. To know that you are not alone. I appreciate you all reading and listening to me. It's kinda like my own therapy session where I get to vent and just be me. So thank you for being there whether you like to make it known or not. Although it would make me feel more special if you guys commented ;)

For a special birthday present for the blog I am working with the one and only Laura Jean aka my Digital Stylist. We are working on a new layout, new everything. We are still working to make it pure perfection so it will be a belated b-day gift. So stay tuned for bigger and better!

But for now.. Enjoy some delicious cake!

Thank you all again!

Happy 1 year anniversary to US!!

SamanthaSS11.

Sorry I have been a little M.I.A. this week. As you know Fashion Week was in full affect and I of course had to be part of it. I was fortunately lucky enough to attend the GreenShows to view Samantha Pleets collection. Unfortunately all the other shows were at times that I was holding down fort at the store. Wompp Wahhh.. Although, tonight is the start off of Williamsburg Fashion Weekend. So I will be able to view Marcus Hicks' collection "SDN" which is always amazing.

Since I DID see Samantha's I can report back on what I learned and took in. She is an unbelievable artist. Her creations always have that whimsical edge, this collection I personally felt was a little more hipster/downtown girl. And I'm not complaining. She paired different fabrics with different prints with different texture. It was all different and that is what it is all about. When you go to these show you want to see something new yet cohesive. I do believe that this was accomplished. She had 18 looks including suits, tunics, polka dot suits, rompers and bustiers'. Everything was styled beautifully. I wish I could do my hair like that and I want all the jewelry that the models were wearing. And if you look closely you will be able to view a mini Danielle Staub (vomit).. ENJOY!!!

I am head over heels in love with these sunny's and this look! Nailed it! POW!

During the shows she also had silent film playing and this is what read underneath it on the program:

"It's the last summer for two lovers. Their affair can go on no longer so they capture the day to remember. She stares into the camera with heartbreak knowing that they can never see each other again. Time has passed and the rolls have been hidden away and forgotten long ago. Once recovered he sits and stares into her eyes take after take her intensity and sadness. Remembering long after the fact how things used to be and what this love is."

FashionNightOut1.

Yesterday was the start of FNO for me. Karelle Levy landed at Kaight around noon. We were so excited to see her and endure her positive energy. She came in all smiles and was so excited to show us her new spring/summer collection 11'. I was taken back by the organic being that these garments were producing. All of Karelle's pieces are made out of strictly knits. When we first saw some of the pieces some had some snags and pulls here and there. I asked will it snag anymore than it already has? She then replied.. "that's the beauty of it. Every piece is like a living creature." All of the snags are organic which makes it even more beautiful to watch the pieces fad and become more beautiful with age.
I am so excited to go into work today sporting my beautiful Krel2Go dress. I was able to pick my fabric and the style of the dress I wanted and then 5 minutes of pinning and 19 minutes of sewing and 1 min of posing for a Polaroid. All that in 25 min and I had myself a one of a kind beautiful knit dress. Thanks Karelle, you are amazing and I love everything about what you do! Well gotta get ready for Fashion Night Out...More to come tomorrow.. Stay tuned!

QuickieCouture.

Fashions Night Out is Friday and it's shaping up not only to be a great party, but also an opportunity to express ourselves through our collective love of fashion. It's the dreamiest of dreamy opportunities to play dress up, as this night is all about showcasing personal style and spirit. That's why we've enlisted Karelle Levy of Krelwear to help! Known for her tubular knits that are convertible and interchangeable, Karelle will be on-hand at Kaight to design a one-of-a-kind FNO outfit on the spot, as part of her Krel2Go tour. Dubbed "Quickie Couture," these hand-knit pieces are fashioned from Karelle's collection of fun, colorful knits. KREL2Go has popped up at the Standard Hotel in Miami and New York and is a must-stop on FNO. While you wait, sip Prosecco and listen to tunes by one of our fave local djs!

What: KREL2Go/FNO Pre-Part

Where: Kaight - 83 Orchard St.

Time: Thurs., Sept. 9, 12 -7 p.m. & Fri., Sept. 10, 3 - 10 p.m

SamanthaFall10'.

Just the other day I had the pleasure of seeing the adorable Samantha Pleet. She came into the store to drop of her Fall 10' collection. I wrote about this collection way back when I only saw it through images of a lookbook. Now I am actually able to hold them, feel the textures and fabric in my little paw. I was blown away then and I am blown away now. So many intricate details its impossible not to call her designs "art". For most of the pieces they are all made out of organic wool which was sourced from Vermont. Samantha told me that she was able to get every last bit of the organic wool, with that being said she unfortunately wasn't able to finish production on one style. Crazy right? Even though we were unable to get that one size medium in one style we still were able to get an x-small, small and large. So have no fear the style is here! It's always great seeing Samantha.. she is just as sweet as she looks! Now.. for mine and your enjoyment here are some of the pieces we got in from Samantha here at Kaight.

Samantha's FAVORITE piece from her collection! (above)

Here's a short about Samantha that was on Style Caster.

R.I.P.FatBeats.

It's the end of an era. Fat Beats has been around since 1994 and has been a second home us since 2006. There were many events that had taken place over the years here at the one and only Fat Beats. Fat Beats was "The last stop for Hip-Hop" with technology growing, illegal downloading and even legal downloading it has taken a huge hit on the record store. Customers weren't coming in as much as they used to, with the exception of the true hip-hop heads. The in-stores weren't as packed as they used to be, until last week. Ever since the world was actually out to the media it was pure chaos. People who said Fat Beats was a home to them started coming out of the wood works but if it TRULY was your second home where were YOU the past couple of years and supporting these artist and the fat beats name? If you are a true fat beats fan, why is the store closing down? It pisses me off because I know how much blood sweat and tears went into the store. The Brown Bag Allstars were the ones running it with Eclipse. I saw the hard work, determination, and love for hip-hop through them. They all were a part of holding the store up for little to nothing pay, but it wasn't about the money for them. It was about being a part of the biggest place in hip-hop, the love they had for music. Which is truly admirable. It will be hard to say goodbye to Fat Beats for the last time today. Last night we had a little pow wow reminiscing our favorite memories of the beats in the last couple of years. The Christmas parties, the in-stores, watching the Halloween parade from the windows, practices, meetings, video-shoots, the first dates, the friendships, the romances, and in all this we have hip-hop to thank.
The love we all share for one common ground.. HIP-HOP!
Thank you Fat Beats for the memories.. You will be missed!
