Lillian Gish Glamour

For some reason today I was just feeling Old Hollywood, Vintage Glamour. It was then that I realized I HAVE to post some of my favorite pictures of my homegirl.. LILLIAN GISH!
I would die for this bracelet!!

Gish is widely described as the greatest actress of the silver screen. She started off her career in 1912 working on D.W. Griffith. She continued to woo the audiences until her passing in 1987. Gish's roles always consisted of fragile, virginal parts due to her deceptively frail look. She was female version of a hustla.. aka a DIVA!

" I never approved of talkies. Silent movies were well on their way to developing into an entirely new art form. It was not just pantomime, but something wonderfully expressive." Lillian Gish

It's a SunShine Day!

Hey guys! It's is such a beautiful day here! The sun is a shinin', the wind is a blowin', and the trees are a shakin'. It's around 67 now and supposedly the high of the day will be 74! YES! I can definitely handle this. The city just looks so beautiful today. The crispy leaves on the sidewalks, the leaves changing colors on the trees, blue skies as a beautiful background, the sunlight beaming off of the building windows, and the birds soaring through the sky. If you could, take a moment to captivate the beauty of the world we live in. Help preserve our planet by doing these few simple tasks. It will make a WORLD of a difference (pun intended)!!

::Recycle,Reduce,Reuse! - it's what makes the world go round!

::When your brushing your teeth or washing you face/hands turn off the water in between rinses. The average person, who keeps the water running while brushing their teeth, will use 1.875 gallons of water.

::When you are not using an appliance.. unplug it! Jimmy and I use power strips, its saves energy and also saves us lots of mulah! So don't be fooled by thinking if something is turned off it is not using energy.

::Skip the bottled water. Using a water bottle generates large amounts of wastes.. that is totally unnecessary. Use a reusable canteen or an aluminum bottle..( plus there are alot of cute ones out there!)

::Update your wardrobe for less. Instead of consuming new products, trade clothes, accessories, and shoes for free (you only pay for shipping). By swapping merchandise you can lower the amount of harmful emissions caused by the manufacturing process. Check out swapstyle.com to learn more.

::Borrow from libraries instead of buying personal books and movies. This saves money, not to mention the ink and paper that goes into printing new books.

Hope everyone enjoys their day!!

I think I'm in HEAVEN...

JIMMY CHOO is doing a line for H&M!! WOW! I don't know if any other words will come out of my mouth besides WOW! This is truly a dream come true! Finally I will own a pair of Jimmy's! From what I have read the line will consist of pretty much everything that has to do with 80's glam rock! Am I in heaven or what? The concept of the line was to portray the style of the founder Tamara Mellon. “It works all different ways,” said Mellon, noting dressing day-to-night was a key factor in creating the collection. The collection includes suede dresses, sky scraping stilettos, studded gladiators, costume bling, zebra studded bags, 80's inspired clutches, thigh-high boots, sequence dresses and more. From sneak peeks that I have seen the garments have that sophisticated classy elegance as well as hardcore bad ass bitch.

Don't worry guys, we didn't forget about you too! They're will also be a Men's Line! Which H&M will actually be poppin' Jimmy's cherry. They have never done a mens line before. So all in all H&M is raising the bar. The men’s assortment includes a refined leather bomber jacket, a black suit, slim-cut jeans and easy T-Shirts to be paired with.. well anything! So girls, if you want your man to dress like those models on the billboards go to H&M and pick up some amazing designer gear!

REMEMBER PEOPLE THIS IS A HUGE DEAL!!!

Anyway, We got a few new things at KAIGHT to help ya avoid some brain freeze. This first hat is by Stewart and Brown and it is actually Cashmere, now that's beautiful!

The other piece we will be getting any day now. Made by Hortensia this product is made up of three generations of French women raised in Peru. Hortensia is entirely handmade by skilled knitters, lifelong craftswomen, who collaborate on a design by suggesting a stitch, an embroidery or a special crochet finish. Made from 100% baby alpaca wool.

Just a few lovely pieces to keep you up to normal body temp.
From what I heard this winter is gonna be a real nasty bitch!
So stock up now while its available!

I just had to add this.. He is just to damn cute! I wish cartoons like this were still on.. I don't really care for any of this Phineas and Ferb crap. I want the good ol' Looney Tunes, Chilly Willy, Old Skool Disney.. Ohhh How I dream.

Sweet October.

Today is my day off so I thought it would be fab to go to a quaint coffee shop and work on the blog. I used to live in Park Slope and was in LOVE with this coffee place on the corner of 7th Ave and 11th St. I unfortunately cant remember the name of it. Anyway, I was driving there all excited to get a great cup of coffee and work and then as I'm looking for the shop POOF its gone! WTF?! 7th Ave is a new place now! So many new shops. I had to go to Connecticut muffin and there were NO SEATS at all! Ughhh I just wanted to vibe out and there was nothing. If anyone knows of a good place PLEASE let me know!

Ok, So I have a few scattered things I want to discuss. What I'm LOVIN' in
Oct..So Far...

1. Yes to Carrots (thanks to my girl Jess.. check her out at www.thechicecofreak.blogspot.com) - I bought the day cream face moisturizer and the make up remover, fell in love and got the facial cleanse and the night cream. Seriously my face is glowing as if I was prego.. (gross I take that back, don't even wanna joke about that)

2. All types of pumpkins. Pumpkin Ravioli, Pumpkin pie, Pumpkin cake, a scent of scandal candle called HottMess.. the scent is steaming spiced chai (available at Kaight). To me it just smells like October and Pumpkins. And finally Pumpkin HEAD aka PH! Went to one of the Brown Bag Thursdays and Pumpkin Head was doing a set.. It was on his birthday So I guess u can say I celebrated his bday with him. He's pretty awes.

3. Thank the lord above all my programs are back on! Loving Desperate Housewives (I am sooo HAPPY that Susan and Mike are married again, sorry if I ruined that for anyone), The Office (Another wedding that I was loving), So you think you can dance (always brings me to tears by the heart filled emotional performances). I am really into the Twilight Series (TEAM JACOB WHAAATTTT) so I started to DVR The Vampire Diaries @ first I thought this is a total Twilight bit.. but after a few episodes I was like ok, alright I can handle this.. not bad, but still a bite. You get the tv version of Twilight and the main chick is from Degrassi (Miss Momma Mia Jones) and I love to see her try to act. Ok.. on the real tho,.......
WTF is up with 90210 shitting on Gossip Girl..

Dear GG writers,
We've already know what is about to happen, no suspense. The stylist needs help. She killed it in the first 2 seasons and now what she's hooked on "the crack"? Seriously you need to re-do this whole season if you ask me.. I'll give u a tip.. get 90210's writer..
xoxo,
brooklynista

4. I have been wearing so many vintage dresses this month. We got new AMAZING Dream and Awake vintage dresses at KAIGHT. Each one is reconstructed to its own. One of a kinds here people. I wore mine the other day and I truly felt as if I could twirl around in central park with birds flying around me and signing "its a sunshine day". Check out at www.kaightnyc.com for other smart, ethical, eco- friendly designs.. My dress looked amazing with my maggie textured tights. Also loving my vintage boots.. Oh My Damn they're beautiful!

5. I recently started up with ebay. Inspired by Cakes I had to find a calculator watch. I searched and searched and found my beauty.. It's the Casio RED calculator watch.. and only 39.99.. amazement. I am so jealous of Miss cakes, she has black, blue and red. Clearly she is living the dream.

6. Jim and I are newly addcited to Sam Adams Octoberfest. Although I will say we dont get sloppy everynight. We drink responsibly and you should too! Dont drink and drive!

7. My last and def. not least favorite thing for Oct. is YANA Bags. So at the store we sometimes hold events. The last one I was at was a YANA event. I have been obsessed with her bags since I first walked into the store. I was in even more amazement when I was told that you can pick from the swatches she had to create your own personal bag! I had no choice but to do this. I cant even describe the beauty and convince of this bag. I will just show u with this pic.

I'm sooo lovin' my blog and I must give all thanks to my digital stylist LJ!! Go to www.LJKC.blogspot.com and you can get in touch with her to design your blog, because honey .. u need her! BAMMMMMMMMMMM in ya face!

Tye Dye Rain

So it's a really crummy day out there today. Last night it looked and smelled like it was gonna snow but it def was not at a cold enough temp. Well I guess my senses were a lil close, since it is raining and now its really cold. Blah, just makes you feel all blah blah.. ANY WHO, I was on maggiesorganics.com yesterday to purchase some new tights and knee hi's for the store..Kaight..(my job) and I came across these AMAZING socks. They are freakin TYE DYE!! How amazing is that!? They have both Bold and Lite tye dye.. I couldn't decide, so I got both =) Wish I had these on right now with sweatpants, a sweatshirt, wrapped up in a blanket, watching some of my programs on the couch with my Sur-Sur and Jimmy! Till next time rain.. till next time. For now I will enjoy the socks by looking at them and pretending to be wearing them.

Brooklyinsta's Subway Etiquette 101

Ok folks, There's more than a few things that piss me off on the subway. If you happen to be one of these people who do any of the following.. Stay clear from me!

My subway stop for work is Grand Street. Now for those of you who aren't familiar with this stop and the anxiety that comes with it consider yourself blessed. This is my interpretation of it (grand st. that is) You know in the movies where they have a random herd of wild bulls running through dirt roads and close lining whom ever is in there way..Ya that's how it is. Every man for himself. I cant even tell you how many times I have gotten shoved by an 80 year old women trying to get an open seat (not that I wouldn't give it to her anyway but please woman MANNERS!) It's just absolutely horrendous and I have to give myself a pep talk every time I get on or off the train there. Oh and it's not like it's a once in a blue moon type o' thang, this happens all times of the day/night..everyday. INSANITY!

That was one thing..
Next is...

::When it is between the hours of 6-11am SHUT THE HELL UP! Or just use your indoor voices ppaahhllleeaasee! It's crazy enough we all have to be in each others bubbles that early in the morning but you don't need to scream in MY ear about your where abouts or whose abouts in your latest rendezvous.

::This is almost my biggest pet peeve and I gag every time it happens. It's cool if your sick, it happens. But please don't infect the rest of us by coughing/sneezing and not covering your mouth.. wtf.. seriously, I think I was taught that in the womb.

::If your gonna eat on the train..fine.. I find it disgusting because of all the germs and I don't want that shit but if your cool with it whatev's. Try and limit it to things that don't have a obscene odor that smells up the whole train. Oh and if your gonna eat something with a shell or a pit put the fuckin' shells/pit in your pocket, a napkin, anything but the seat next to you or the floor.. so grrooosss my god. Every stop has a trash can where you can deposit your saliva shells/pit. GIVE A HOOT DON'T POLLUTE!

::When there is ample amount of space on the railing that you and another passenger are holding there is ABSOLUTELY NO reason for your hand to be touching theirs.

:: If your a dude and need your ball space,ok I can handle that but you def don't need 2 seats for this. If so I highly recommend you going to a doctor.

The most major NONO of them all.........

Hope you enjoyed class today kids! If you have any of your own rules please let your voice be heard!! I will leave off with this... TADAAAAAA!!!!!!!!

Atlantic Antic

Last Sunday Oct. 4th was the 35th annual Atlantic Antic street fair. The fair started on Fourth Ave. in Park Slope all the way down Atlantic to the water ending on Hicks St. What a HIKE! 10 Blocks never seemed so far! It was my first time at the fair and it pretty much succeeded all my expectations. I meet up with some great friends, drank some fantastic sangria's, got a lil buzzed (then I walked it off), bought some great ish, ate some great fair food, and met AMAZINGLY INSANE CREATIVE Up and Coming Designers. So all in all Amazement.
I was with probably about 6 of my girlfriends and we all walked over to one booth and were in awe, so many beautifully completed pieces to choose from. Each one of us has our own unique creative style and this designer had a different piece for each and every one of us. Now that is what I call designing with your customer/customerS in mind. The pieces I bought were a long drop silver chain with a small silver leaf attached at the end of the earring and gold filigree with peach rose charm earrings. They both are perfect to dress up any casual day look. Both are light in weight and were only $20.00! Now if that's not a deal I don't know what is! Check out their creations at www.ktcollection.com.
The other purchases I made were 2 pairs of vintage earrings. The first pair are a round plastic cream circle with a 1920's floral decal. The others were so 80's that they had to be mine. A 2 tone piece - how 80's can it get! They were small gold hoop with a small dangle square in silver with the outline in gold. What great finds and.. only $5.oo!! So in total I spent $50.00 for 4 pairs of great timeless pieces to add to my collection! Talk about a bargain shopper! I also got Jimmy a Barry White Record to sample. He said he got a few heat rocks from it so money well spent on my part! All in all great day at the fair with my girls and great pieces that I have worn pretty much everyday so far!
