My interview w/ Kaight.

Meet Michele.

Name:Michele Morrissey
Age: 26
Occupation: Manager @ Kaight
Blog: www.thebrooklynista57.blogspot.com

1. Describe your style: I'm kinda all over the place when it comes to style. I have been obsessed with the 70's for quite sometime now. I can go anywhere between bohemian, edgy and girlie. It really all depends on my mood that particular day. I absolutly love vintage. Everyday I wear at least one piece that is vintage. What can I say, I love a garment with a story!

2. Fashion inspiration: My fashion inspiration would have to be mom. She was always dressed to the nines: sunglasses down, Chanel bag on shoulder, high heels clicking, classic dress swaying, and most important red lipstick. Never dull. Everyone always thought she was a movie star. That must be where I get it ;)

3. Favorite designers: I have always been a huge fan of John Galliano. He will always hold a special place in my heart. Right now, I'm loving Tara St. James' line STUDY and WHIT by Whitney Pozgay (images from WHIT's SS'11 Collection below)

4. Favorite recent purchase or item you're most coveting right now: My Vintage Coat from Kaight (pictured below). I stared at it everyday for almost 3 weeks and would cringe when anyone looked at it. That's when you know it's true love. I finally called it a day and took that beautiful baby home with me.

5. One thing you can't live without: Can I pick 2? Ok, first would have to be my fiance' Jimmy because he is the light of my life. Second would have to be my Swedish Hasbeen lace up booties because they complete my life.

6. Favorite thing about the L.E.S: I would have to say the sense of community. It's like we are not in New York City, but Cape Cod or something like that.. you know where everyone is always waving and nodding to each other..."G'day neighbor" type of stuff. What I really love, though: the shopping.

Wearing - Vintage Coat

ChaineyIsBack.

Hey guys! Just wanted to give you guys a heads up and let you know what I have been working on over the weekend. As you know the chainey collection went pretty quick, so I decided to add some more pieces to it. They have same style and feel but of course, all are new vintage chains so each one is a one of a kind. I am also working on some crocheting again. I am focusing on scarves at the moment. If you have a specific style (chunky to fine knit) or color you would like I can custom make it. All scarves are $30. Or 2 for $50! They make a great Christmas gift :) Place an order soon so you can have it in time for the holidays! To make a custom order you can email me at brooklynista57@gmail.com.

All of these pieces are for sale on my etsy shop.
ENJOY!!

They are made of all vintage chains that I was able to dig up at a local thrift shop. The hooks are 14K fill. Price is only $22.. They are perfect for a night out on the town or to dress up the casual tee shirt and jeans look. All designs will be up on my etsy shop soon. So stay tuned!!

I'mSprung.

Spring has sprung.. well, for fashion for that matter.. Kaight just posted a new post telling all about this lovely ensemble that I am sporting. The new Loomstate Margarita dress, layered under that the Julie Vogel (the Park in ParkVogel) roll neck long sleeve tee and cinched at the waist with a Brave leather belt. We just got in these hott items and we're so in love we had to figure out a way for them to be worn in this freezing cold weather we got going on here! So thats how we decided they are both "BURRFECT" for layering! Paired with my Maggie's tights and lace up Swedish Hasbeens you just cant go wrong but, also pair it with a Brooklyinsta necklace (vintage chain and chain links) your..well.. READY FOR ANYTHING!!

Enjoy little Leo's tushie in the first pic of ensemb (short for ensemble).. hence why I am laughing.. Cute lil baby bomb!

Happy Monday All!!

Top 10 before 2010!

I cant believe this year has already come to an end. 09' held so many memorable pieces of history for us all, some good and unfortunately some bad. This years fashion has been on it's A game and I am hoping it continue for years to come. I was exposed to so many new designers and I am so glad. They totally changed my views on alot different pieces and how a garments fit should actually fit. Hopefully the year to come will bring you all nothing but happiness and more memorable moments to look back on. So without further adu here some things I learned and some top 10 memories of 09' :

10. Learning to let go of people who are not worth holding onto. Jimmy's new years resolution last year was to not let people walk all over him. I kinda walked right into that one (no pun intended), I was then able to notice if people were taking advantage of me or were just all around feeding me their negative energy. Everyone has their own issues and deals with them differently but it is easier to deal with your own when you are surrounded by pure and positive energy.

9. Red Lipstick - damn you just make a girl feel like a 1950's movie star! Loves you!

8. Our 1 year anniversary! It feels like just yesterday Jimmy proposed to me. I will never forget that exact moment and the joy it brought to both of our lives! ily <3>

7. Kaight! Since I have been working at this wonderfully green store I have learned so much. I am so blessed to have such an amazing job where I work with fashion and everything green. I have been exposed to new designers, fabrics, textiles, information and most importantly the amazing quality of organic products. It truly is amazing. I feel like I am putting in some work to help our environment by working here. So thank you to Kate for having and AWESOME business and showing me the ropes!

Onto the Designers

6. LuLu Frost.. I luluLUV you! I just purchased this fringe necklace and I am in love. Mine is a different version but same concept .. just longer. I get so many compliments daily I am surprised my necklace didn't explode yet! She is a NYC based designer who creates all one of a kind pieces made from antiques and small pieces of history.. hence the plaza number necklaces.

5. Erin Templeton - Let me just say Erin WOWelton! I cant even believe how much I am dieing over these bags. I am a complete handbag whore and i like pretty much anything unique but I would sooo sell my whole handbag collection just to have a few more of her pieces. Erin is based in Toronto and all of her bags are made from recycled leather jackets.. how cool is that? Of course they are all one of a kinders.

4. Swedish Hasbeens. It's that grungy meets sophisticated hardcore look. Which is what I like to see! I wear my lace up probably at least 4 days a week.. if not more.. Thank you for making such amazing heels I can actually walk in.

3. Dream and Awake. I must be dreaming when I look at your pieces because I am in complete awe. Once again, all one of a kind pieces. All made from recycled vintage fabrics. I have said this before and I will say it every time I talk about her dresses.. "I feel like I should be in the middle of Central Park twirling around and the birds and cute lil' animals will come dance around me." That's how magical these dresses are.

2. This year was when I really started to actually do and complete all my creative thoughts. Jewelry making aka Brooklynista Designs and crocheting. Both bring relaxation and ease to my day. The sense of accomplishing something that I love is even better. A BIG thank you to everyone and anyone who reads my blog.. I will continue making some magic and hope you all will enjoy!

1. Suri.. Got Damn, u light up my life.

Happy and Safe New Year to all!!
Enjoy your evening and New Year!!
