J57 - Stand Out feat. Suri57

The boy who never ceases to amaze me has done it again. Only this time he took Suri along for the ride. Brooklyn MC/Producer J57 of the Brown Bag AllStars (and The Brooklynista's fiancé) takes us through his beat-making process, as well as discusses his group's approach to releasing music.

Shot & Cut by Jav Martinez (@TheJavMart) ThaReelness.Tumblr.com

Isn't she just the cutest little thing you have ever seen? God, I love her... Oh, and Jimmy too of course. PROUD!

P.S.- if you listen closely in the very beginning maybe first 1-2 seconds you can hear her little bark, sounds sort of like a record scratch. Lol.

Peach Rose

Been in a bit of a rut and missing Mom and Dad lately. Holidays are coming, they bring laughter and joy, but along with that, some sadness. Time goes by and things get better but it still seems like just yesterday. This beautiful peach rose was given to me from my sweet Jimmy, as a representation that he is here for me. Then I realize, I am still one lucky girl.

"The Analog Tape" by J57

It's your lucky day!! My handsome, extremely talented fiance' released his 2nd beat tape today!  It's title, "The Analog Tape". I have said it all before... (numerous times) how proud I am of him. He continuously has proven to me that hardwork, dedication, sacrifice, and passion will eventually lead to an outcome that can only be felt in your heart. Something so real that there are no adjectives can describe. A feeling of living and conquering your dreams. As he conquers this dream I feel the same joy. Only for me, its a feeling of gratitude and admiration. He is an incredible role model and I can only hope that my passion for fashion will amount to the same success in the later years. I love you Jimmy! Thank you for being you! Xoxo, Luff!

FWMJ'S Producers I Know Presents: J57 "The Analog Tape". "The Analog Tape" is a dirty, dusty early 90's sounding beat tape produced entirely by J57.

"Suri helped me greatly on this when she was just a baby pom.. most of the beats are from 07/08 but I re-vamped them and made it into 1 cohesive track ...like a mixtape." - J57

July, I heart you.

Wow, It's the middle of July already? June flew right past us as well as May. July is my absolute favorite month of the whole entire year. It holds a specail and dear place in my heart. There are plenty of reasons that contribute to this and here are my top 10;

One - I was born on July 10th.
Two - Suri's birthday is July 9th. (Birthday weekend!)
Three - 4th of July. Every year my family and I would go to my aunts house, have a bbq, drink plenty of margarita's, go in the pool and when nighttime rolls around we would watch the fireworks on the beach, and then sit around the barnfire singing. Good Times.
Four - My parents wedding anniversary is on the 7th. <3

Five - Jimmy proposed to me on my brithday :) It was 3rd anniversary of being engaged :)
Six - I can go swimming and layout on my hammock at my resort back in L.I. (aka jimmys parents house).
Seven - The rooftop parties at Adri & Kieths with Adri's AMAZING cooking!
Eight - The food, snacks and drinks.
Nine - Coney Island, beach party's with friends.
Ten - It's Summer time and the living is easy.

Good lord that took long to get all those pics in order... phewwww!

The Swallow.

It was Friday the 13th and surprisingly good things did happen. I had a day off for some much needed R&R. I went and completed my errands, took Suri for a walk, caught up on some of my "programs", read a few chapters of Water for Elephants (an AMAZING book, cant wait to see the movie) and best of all got a new tattoo!
It was definitely unexpected and out of the blue, but that is how I like to do alot of things... spontaneous.. it should be my middle name. My girl Mika had texted me asking if I was down to get a drink and a tat.. I was all down for the drink but the tat I was a little apprehensive. There was a Friday the 13th special going on at "The Hand of Glory" tattoo shop in Park Slope offering $20 tat's tip included. I mean come on how do you say no to that! The only catch was you had only a select few tattoo's to choice from. I took a peak at what was being offered and right when I saw the swallow I knew that was my tat of choice.
I have been wanting a new one for quite sometime now but never knew EXACTLY what I wanted. It was an easy choice because it was as if they the swallow was speaking to me on another level. I looked up the meaning of the swallow and knew then and there that this was actually going to happen. The swallow represents a bird that chooses a mate for life (the ring on my left hand). Also, a few other meanings that touched my soul were the symbolism of victory over hardship, and the symbolism of love and loyalty to family. I have over come some obstacles in my life and they have only lead me to become the person I am today. I will forget not but embrace what I have been through. Thus, concluding the reason why the swallow spoke to me and why I will forever have it as a representation on my wrist.

Dunks Be with You.

Last weekend, Jimmy and I went for a stroll down Atlantic Avenue. I have been working at Kaight's Brooklyn location on Thursdays for a little while now and as I walk to and from the subway, I noticed there are so many cute shops to check out. Finally, on my day off I got to be one of the strollers that I see on the outside of those big glass doors. We had a great time, laughing, holding hands, breathing in the fresh air, seeing the buds of flowers bloom, window shopped and even went into a few stores. There were 2 places that had influenced our entire weekend. One being a hoarders paradise furniture/hardware/gadget/can't move an inch store, and second being an awesome consignment boutique. The hoarders paradise gave us incentive to clean out the studio and bedroom. The awesome consignment shop is where I got THESSSEEE.......
Aren't they gorgeous?! These pretty puppies are the Liberty Dunks X Opening Ceremony circa 08', a very limited pack released for women.

Here's a lil 411 on the beauts: "Nike designers have applied quintessential British style to the purest of Nike. Fabrics from Liberty of London, draped on the Dunk, create a true clash of femininity and clean athletic lines.Liberty is department store set in a famous Tudor building in the heart of London’s West End. The Nike Design team selected two classic Liberty prints: Wilshire and Pepper, to create two limited editions of the Nike Dunk. Liberty fabrics are characterized by tender palettes, all over floral prints, and detailed movement, which is the perfect juxtaposition with the clean design lines of the Nike Dunk. These sneakers feature a gumsole and a heavyweight Liberty fabric for the upper which was chosen for its durability."

Just the other day I emailed my girl LJ (she is a HUGE kicks fan) to show her the new Nike x Liberty Summer 11 collection (pics below) as it came across my twitter feed. The more and more I stare at them I still can't seem to figure out which one I love more.. Ugh A fashionista's dilemma!

Which is your fav?

Proud.

I am ashamed that I have not posted this as soon as it came out. I honestly thought I had. Anyway, I truly love this video. It encapsulates all things that are dear to my heart. New York City, J57(my love, my life, my everything), music, fashion, The Brown Bag Allstars, hip hop and urban creativity. I can feel this beat runs through my veins everytime I hear it. It takes me back to when I first heard Jimmy making the beat from scratch in his studio (aka horders paradise, our 2x2 computer filled with records and everything music related). Suri was of course laying on her circle bed as she does everytime he is working on a beat. That is her way of showing her support and here is mine. I love you Jimmy and I LOVE this video. Thank you for showing me what hardwork, dedication and that dreams actually do come true.. I aspire to be like you. PROUD!

So to all; Please enjoy my incredibly talented fiance's 1st solo video off of his insturmental album "Digital Society". With featured vocals from the ever so talented Mr. Jefferson Price himself, aka Digga. ENJOY :)

Valentines Day Window.

As Valentine's day is dawning upon us it is time for another Valentine's Day window display. This is purely designed to let our significant others know what we want for our "special" day. Valentine's day is one of those days to let the extra sexy-ness flow. With out further adu welcome our window of sexy-ness. It features only the best.. jewelery, candles, lotion, lingerie, and of course high heels. I think that about sums up the epitome of sexy.

What would V-Day be without lingerie. This time opt. for something a little more everyday. Try Only Heart's sexy thong, if not a thong type o' gal go for the boyshort. They are both super sexy with lace trim. Comfortable and 100% organic cotton. How can you go wrong?

Lockets have always been one of my favorite pieces to find. I especially love finding vintage ones like these by Lulu Frost. One has the letters "O.J." engraved on it and the other has 2 vintage pictures inside. The history that goes with these small pieces is indescribable and I can only imagine they life they lived.

Olsean Haus's strappy heels are a must. They scream sexy with out being to flashy. A nice strappy heel and a fitted dress will be sure to make all heads turn.

Of course candles are a known fact to set the mood on V-day, but these ones are extra saucy. With titles like D-CUPS with the scent of melons, Original Sin (fig leaf), Morning Wood (sandalwood) plus many more they are truly "A Scent of Scandal"..

Meet your loved one smelling like gardenia blossoms, citrus sage, or go fragrance free but still have the moisturized skin of a baby. avail. in-store only.

Priti Polish always makes me smile. Knowing I am using non-toxic polish on my nails is key. The colors are stunning and what a way to treat yourself before the big day.

The Hand of Fatima has been a huge hit this lovey dovey season. If you haven't seen the Vintage Brothel Coin necklaces you are about to be blown away. What a racy message to send to your guy or gal, and a great piece of history. All are one of a kinds. She also has adorable "Lock&Key" necklaces which are adorable and sweet. More in-store.

Brooklynista's Winter Guide:

The winter edition Vol. 1.

There has been so much snow here in NYC that it is kinda impossible to go outside looking cute. With big clunky snow boots, a humongous jacket, hat, scarf, gloves, stockings under your pants, 3 layers of tops, and 2 pairs of socks, you begin to feel like a walking marshmallow. With that being said I am loving the sound of staying in, if I don't have to go out. What I have been doing to keep occupied are these 3 things.. reading, finding new music, watching more movies (every trainers worst nightmare lol). I was never a real movies fanatic but now I'm starting to get into them. Watched some that I have been wanting to see for sometime now just never got to the theatre. Also, I only like certain movies.. which is also why we don't go to the theatre that often. I'm strictly a hilarious comedy or romantic-comedy type o' gal. I know cliche', but when I watch anything out of these genre's I become devastated. That's not a good look.

The movies that fit into these categories were:

"Easy A" - super cute and I began to fall in love with Emma Stone... hard.

"Twilight's Eclipse" - Hated it! I read all the books and everyone said that eclipse was the best movie by far. I understand that from a special effects kinda view but story wise.. Edward creeps me the Fbomb out.. as you can obv. tell I'm Team Jacob!

"Toy Story 3" - Recommended by MANY.. and I LOVED it! Adorable! Big Baby I love you!

"Grown Ups" - It was funny and cute. pretty much what I wanted and was looking for. It satisfied my needs. Wasn't hilarious as I thought though. That was an all-star cast but.. they can still do no wrong in my eyes.

Music heals the soul:

SoulKhan Feat. Sene with remixes Audible Doctor - Shot Glass Magnified - Love every second of it. Beat, vocals, and lyrics. Killer.

Talib Kweli - He just put out a new album it's dope but not dope enough to buy the whole album.. I just got a few tracks.

I Fight Dragons - I was actually put onto them by seeing them in my news feed on Facebook non the less. And I have been listening to this song non-stop. "The Power of Love".

Metric - Gold Guns Girls - to be exact. Love it, need it, you should buy it.

New Young Pony Club - Love it all. Got the whole album and listen to it all the time.

As Of this winter the books I read were:

"You better not cry" by Augusteen Burroughs - Hilarious Christmas Read.

"Tweaked" by Patrick Moore - Another one of my debbie downers dealing with drugs, and abusive situations. Butttt their is always something good that comes out of it. (I wont say anymore!)

Reading now - "Dandelions: Memoirs of a Free Spirit" by Catherine James - A memoir of a groupie pretty much... Love it.

On my to-read list you ask..? Oh yes, there is:

"Blow by Blow The story of Isabella Blow" by Detmar Blow with Tom Sykes

"The Thieves of Manhattan" by Adam Langer

"Just Kids" by Patti Smith

For now that is my winter review from our apt in BK. Hopefully soon the snow will stop falling, so Suri and I can go for a walk with out her jumping through the snow like a bunny. That seriously happened and it was so cute but so sad at the same time.. it was like she was jumping so high yet she was still to small to get anywhere. Then her legs had snow stuck to them like little ice blocks. Once I noticed, I picked her up and ran her home to defrost my Petunia.. so sad :(

However, We were able to make it out last night to meet up with some of our fav. people at a Casmik Event. ALways a good time ;)

If you have any suggestions please feel free to comment ;)
