To the Beach or the Market...

Just yesterday we received a shipment from Mar Y Sol. A new brand we are starting to carry here at Kaight. From green and blue tones to yellow and orange.. I was blown away from the color that was hitting my retinas . The Nantuket Ombre Basket Totes are space-dyed straw totes with sturdy leather straps which make them the perfect market tote or beach bag (as seen in pic above).
Mar Y Sol is a socially responsible accessories brand that collaborates with artists in New York and artisans in Madagascar. They design and create authentic accessories made by hand using natural materials sourced sustainably from Madagascar’s precious forests. The sale of their products enables families to gain economic independence and promotes environmental conservation. This is achieved through fair trade partnerships with artisans who make a living wage through our “trade not aid” business model.
Whether it be to the beach or market you will be sure to catch a few eyes. I paired the bags with a looks for each adventure. Both containing a few new products and designers that we are welcoming into Kaight for Spring. One being, "Wool And The Gang". Wool And The Gang's cotton's unique softness and luster are the result of Peru's sunshine and fertile soils where it is grown and carefully hand picked without herbicides. I paired the Tala Tank with the beach look because I felt it fit best to wear directly on your skin or with your swimsuit for a very sexy style. Pair the Diana Sweater with a pair of cropped jeans and some Melissa's and you are ready to hit your local farmers market!
Since the bag is "a whole lot of bag" you might want to tone down the jewlery and focus on the bag as your statement piece. For the beach look I went with something simple and no matter what type of sunblock (I suggest Say Yes To Carrots) or if you are planning to take a dip in the ocean, your jewelry will still keep its color and shape. Andean Collections Acai Seed bracelets are perfect for that. Stack a few different colors to add some more of that colorful pop. For the market I went with something classic and bold. This beautiful polished cuff by Kora showcases the natural layers and patterns of the horn. Made in Kenya from recycled Ankole cow horn.
Of course I had to throw in the Waiting for the Sun sunglasses and the JadeTribe coin purse. Both of these products are perfect for either look but the sunglasses went better with the beach color combos, as the coin purse went better with the market colors, that might just be my OCD talking but hey it works for me :)

A perfectly sustainable way to enjoy the beach and market. Hope you enjoyed!

The Swallow.

It was Friday the 13th and surprisingly good things did happen. I had a day off for some much needed R&R. I went and completed my errands, took Suri for a walk, caught up on some of my "programs", read a few chapters of Water for Elephants (an AMAZING book, cant wait to see the movie) and best of all got a new tattoo!
It was definitely unexpected and out of the blue, but that is how I like to do alot of things... spontaneous.. it should be my middle name. My girl Mika had texted me asking if I was down to get a drink and a tat.. I was all down for the drink but the tat I was a little apprehensive. There was a Friday the 13th special going on at "The Hand of Glory" tattoo shop in Park Slope offering $20 tat's tip included. I mean come on how do you say no to that! The only catch was you had only a select few tattoo's to choice from. I took a peak at what was being offered and right when I saw the swallow I knew that was my tat of choice.
I have been wanting a new one for quite sometime now but never knew EXACTLY what I wanted. It was an easy choice because it was as if they the swallow was speaking to me on another level. I looked up the meaning of the swallow and knew then and there that this was actually going to happen. The swallow represents a bird that chooses a mate for life (the ring on my left hand). Also, a few other meanings that touched my soul were the symbolism of victory over hardship, and the symbolism of love and loyalty to family. I have over come some obstacles in my life and they have only lead me to become the person I am today. I will forget not but embrace what I have been through. Thus, concluding the reason why the swallow spoke to me and why I will forever have it as a representation on my wrist.

Peace & Love,
